Volunteer information

Haines welcomes parents and community stakeholders who wish to contribute their valuable time and talents to enriching the academic experience of our students. There is a CPS Volunteer Policy in place for all volunteers.  All prospective school volunteers must complete a volunteer application. You can begin the application process at https://chicagopublicschools.civicore.com. As part of the application process, volunteers must also bring in their identification to the main office after they receive a notification email from CPS stating that their application has been received. If you have any questions or concerns about becoming a volunteer at Haines School, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Dionne Scott at (773) 534-9200 or email [email protected].

When completing the volunteer application process, volunteers can select to be a Level 1 or Level 2 volunteer.
Examples of Level 2 Volunteer
Requirement: ID
Note: A CPS employee must be present with the volunteer at all times.
  • ​Classroom Helper with teacher (less than 10 hours per week for parents and less than 5 hours per week for non-parents)
  • Recess and Lunch Helper with other CPS staff
  • Classroom Speaker / School Event Judge
  • School Events Helper (i.e. Field Day)
  • Day Field Trip Chaperone (whole group w/ teacher)
  • Tutor / Mentor in the classroom with teacher
Examples of Level 1 Volunteer

Note: Volunteer does not require the presence of a CPS employee at all times.​
  • ​Classroom Helper (more than 10 hours per week for parents and more than 5 hours for non-parents)
  • Day Field Trip Chaperone (lead own small group)
  • Overnight Field Trip Chaperone
  • Student Teacher / Pre-Service Teacher / Coach
  • Tutor / Mentor with small groups
  • Non-Supervised Classroom Assistant
